Young pupils complete pilot phase of a new work experience programme in partnership with Dundee City Council

GoodCall’s partnership represents its dedication in increasing employability for those furthest from the labour market.

DUNDEE, SCOTLAND – January 17, 2023 – GoodCall Mobile CIC (referred to as GoodCall), the UK’s social enterprise that supplies mobile technology and communication solutions solely to third sector organisations, announces the completion of the pilot phase of its new work experience programme in partnership with Dundee City Council by two young pupils. Since 2019, GoodCall has supported 95+ third sector organisations, saving over a total £100,000 in mobile contract costs, allowing its partners to better divert their resources to their frontline services.

As a social enterprise, one of GoodCall’s social impact initiatives is to increase employability and employment opportunities for and to those furthest from the labour market. The partnership with Dundee City Council represents the progress they’ve made to better equip young individuals to be better prepared for the future. Two young female pupils from Grove Academy in Broughty Ferry completed the pilot phase last month in December 2022, creating digital marketing content using online tools, providing valuable feedback and insight into GoodCall’s operations, and how their work experience will help them for their future ambitions in their chosen fields.

“GoodCall has given us an experience with a company, and this has been useful as it relates to the university course that I am applying for, so I am able to add this into my personal statement”, said one student. “This work experience has also taught me to use Canva and this has helped with other subjects.” “It was good to see how GoodCall works with other companies, and when we went into GoodCall, we saw how their company works – we found out what Kate’s job roles were and we got interviewed about our experience”, said the other student.

“At GoodCall we recognise the extra barriers that exist for some young people in our Dundee community; the statistics are painful to read but must be acknowledged”, said Kate Masson, Chief Executive Officer of GoodCall. “We are delighted to be part of work experience opportunities available in the city, where we are helping to create the workforce of tomorrow by giving them time, access to software and a safe place to explore the tech and third sector industries. I want to thank our two young people. They were committed to the opportunity and gave us their all. They were innovative and good fun and reinforced everything that is brilliant about young people. Receiving their positive feedback was lovely, and we really hope to be able to secure funding in 2023 to be able to scale this project up.”

GoodCall remains committed to expanding and delivering opportunities that enhances personal and professional growth to a wide range of individuals. Recently, GoodCall’s focus is supporting women with job and training opportunities. We will recruit the right candidate regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, class, age, or sexual orientation; however, we acknowledge and seek to address barriers that are more likely to impact women in order to support their employment. GoodCall seeks to expand this programme over the next 15 months to support 12 young women, increasing their employability career paths.
